The rate here is the mid-market rate. Providers usually add a margin and fees, so leave a buffer of a few percent.

If a shop or ATM abroad offers to charge you in rupees, it's usually a worse deal. Choose to pay in the local currency.

Where do these rates come from?
They are mid-market reference rates from a public exchange-rate feed and refresh regularly. The mid-market rate is the midpoint between what buyers and sellers of a currency are willing to pay, without any fees or margins added.
Why is the rate at the airport or my bank different?
Banks, airport counters and money changers add a margin and sometimes fixed fees on top of the mid-market rate, and cash usually costs more than card. Always compare the final amount you receive, not just the headline rate.
What is DCC and how do I avoid it?
Dynamic Currency Conversion happens when a shop or ATM abroad offers to charge you in rupees instead of the local currency. The rate offered is usually poor. When asked, choose the local currency.
Are the converted amounts guaranteed?
No. Rates move during the day and this tool is for information only. Treat the result as an estimate and confirm the exact rate with the provider you eventually use.
